Please RSVP here for the Confirmation retreat. We will meet at 10:00am in front of the church on Saturday, March 5th, and return by the end of the 10:30am service (Around 11:30am) on Sunday, March 6th.

Our theme for the weekend will be "A Toolbox for the Christian Life," and parishioners, volunteers, and I will be engaging students in discussion about how to live out their faith. There will also be plenty of games and time to get out energy. We will have a campfire and s'mores Saturday night, and wake up for Eucharist Sunday morning before heading home.

The cost for the retreat is $50, which covers food and lodging. Scholarships are available--email me if they are needed. You can pay by dropping a check by the church office, sending one on Sunday, or even sending a check with your student on the retreat. Payment is due by March 5th.

Please remember, this is a mandatory part of the Confirmation class, and if your child needs to miss it, we need to talk about options to get them ready for Confirmation.

Download the Good Shepherd release form here (if we have one on file for your student, you do not need to fill out another), and the waiver for Camp All Saints here.

<![CDATA[Summer Student mission to Nassau (June 26-30)]]>Wed, 03 Feb 2016 16:34:27 GMThttp://www.goodshepherdstudents.org/blog/summer-student-mission-to-nassau-june-26-30PLEASE NOTE: The trip is currently full, however there is a sign-up for the wait list below. Those interested in the trip should sign up there, and they will be contacted if a spot opens.

The Orphanage

The Ranfurly Homes for Children is one of five orphanages in Nassau, and one of two for youth in middle and high school. The summer each year is a difficult time for the orphanage because the students are out of school, and they are not able to enjoy the break with family or go to expensive summer camps. They are also without the state-run lunch program that they receive at school. We will be there the first week of their summer break to lead a sports camp for them and provide lunches for the kids.

Logistics

Maureen Kirgis is leading the trip, and Coach Chuck Locke is leading the sports camp. There are two remaining chaperone spots currently available--contact Fr. Mullins if you are interested. There are eleven spots available for students. We are flying American Airlines--the details are below. Please note that a passport is required, and needs to be ordered as soon as possible. Once in Nassau, we will be staying at the Presbyterian Church in Downtown Nassau.
Flight Details
  • Sunday, June 26th
    • DFW -> MIA 6:15am – 10:05am
    • MIA -> NAS 11:12am – 12:17pm
  • Thursday, June 30th
    • NAS -> DFW 6:25pm – 8:55pm
I am looking forward to traveling to Nassau with the student mission trip this summer! This will be an amazing opportunity for our students to impact the lifes of the children of the Ranfurly Home for Children. This trip will also give our students the opportunity to serve others and grow as individuals. Thanks you in advance for your support and encouragement!

-Maureen Kirgis, Trip Leader

Cost

Keeping the cost of this trip low is a priority. Because of the nature of planning, the cost is still an estimate. However, I can tell you that the trip will not exceed $800. There are scholarships available should they be needed, and there will be two opportunities to raise funds--the first of which is helping with the Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on February 9th from the time school is over until about 7pm.

The schedule of payments is below:
  • $100 Deposit Due at Sign-Up
  • $200 Due 3/1
  • $200 Due 4/1
  • $200 Due 5/1
  • Balance Due 6/1 (if any, up to $100 maximum)

    Wait List Sign-Up

    Please note that this trip is currently full. Students may sin up for the wait list here, and they will be contacted in the order they signed up if a spot on the trip opens.

I'm excited to officially announce that Fellowship of Christian Athletes is coming to Good Shepherd as an extra-curricular option for seventh and eighth grade students.

This Monday evening, from 7:00-8:30, we are hosting a kickoff movie event in Kincaid. We will watch "Facing the Giants" with snacks, and students are invited to bring pillows, blankets, etc. to get comfortable on the stage.

The following two weeks, we will meet on Monday mornings at 7:00am in the youth room at the church with donuts and special speakers. This is a great opportunity for your students, and I hope you will bring them.

To continue receive occasional announcement emails about FCA at Good Shepherd, please fill in the information below.

<![CDATA[Survey for 2015-16 Student Ministry Trips]]>Fri, 24 Jul 2015 22:09:21 GMThttp://www.goodshepherdstudents.org/blog/survey-for-2015-16-student-ministry-tripsAs I work on next year's calendar, I am in the early stages of planning two trips--one is a bigger mission trip than our students have done in the past, and the other is a ski trip, similar to what they did years ago. As I weigh the possibilities, I have a few questions for you to consider. This is a short, but important survey--please take it seriously, and consider what you might be willing to commit to this year for your child.

Thank you!
